Biopics – Nyendwa Family
Julie Nyendwa – is a Tanzanian Citizen. In a career spanning
fourteen years Julie Nyendwa has been prominent in the mining
industry in Africa. In 1991, with members of her family, she founded
her own mining company based in Kafue. Between 1991 and 1993, the
company explored for amethyst and aquamarine in various parts of
Zambia. A substantial amethyst deposit was discovered in the Kalomo
area and mining commenced in 1994.
Julie Nyendwa is a leading figure amongst the Women in Mining
in Zambia. She has a close association with European Commission
programmes, is a trustee of the Association of Zambian Women in
Mining and is involved in the regional organisations in the Southern
African Development Community. She brings a considerable depth of
mining knowledge to the Company.
Upendo Nyendwa – Zambian Citizen and son of Julie Nyendwa.
After leaving school, Upendo took responsibility for the running of
the mining operations of the Nyendwa family mining company. He has
concentrated much of his time on the Kalomo amethyst mining
operation and he has an unrivalled knowledge of the mining and value
addition process. Throughout his period in mining he has continued
to upgrade his business and marketing skills. He was previously an officer in the Zambian Police Reserve.
